It's not always considered that surrounding skin can contribute to healing delay and with some wounds crusting, accumulation of exudate and debris can contribute to continued inflammation and discomfort that inhibits healing and invites patient interference. In this session we'll explore a range of cases where care of the surrounding skin with simple measures makes a considerable impact on the welfare of the patient and the positive progression of wound healing. We will cover:

Our 6th Clinical Club covering the subject of healing delay and the common reasons why wounds don't seem to want to heal. Subjects covered include a short review of the normal physiology of wound healing and the most common factors that inhibit normal wound progression. These include movement, tissue deficit, patient interference and wound infection. This session features special guest Prof Jon Hall, European and Royal College Specialist in small animal surgery as he shares his insights with Georgie Hollis and discusses cases that they have supported over the years. Georgie Hollis describes the science associated with sub bandage pressures and discusses the factors that can influence the damage caused. This session explains the principles of a standard bandage, the layers involved. Robert Jones and the modified Robert Jones are discussed and compared to casting and splinting as our preferred method for immobilisation.

Our third clinical club hosted by Georgie Hollis explores the practical applications of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) for veterinary use. The session includes the principles of NPWT, the practical application, clinical challenges, indications and contraindications.
This session is applicable to both Vets and nurses across first opinion and referral practice. Our second clinical club of 2025 was a hosted, interactive sessions where attendees voted on their experiences and feelings about heat pad injuries. Live data was discussed along with possible options to avoid injuries along with potential ideas for improvements in industry standards and reporting of adverse events.
