Our October clinical club focuses on the value of skin care and wound lavage as part of the wound management process. Watch the recording below and don't forget to zap the QR code on the right to download your CPD certificate.

This session covers care of surrounding skin, lavage and cleansing as part of the wound management process. Crusting of exudate, accumulation of debris and dead tissue not only contributes to continued inflammation but can also be uncomfortable inviting patient interference and difficulty in removal in the conscious patient.
In this session we'll also cover a novel technique using 'bubble-wrap' as a way to rapidly remove devitalised tissue in the compromised patient. A simple measure that can make a considerable impact on the welfare of the patient, early decision making and the positive progression of wound healing.
We will cover:
  • Use of shampoo and skin cleansers as a method to reduce bioburden surrounding wounds to reduce associated inflammation and optimise skin health.
  • Wound lavage and autolytic debridement to reduce bioburden
  • Simple methods that can help on a budget and the introduction of novel techniques to assist in rapid debridement of large areas of superficial, devitalised tissue.
